Went for a Paan but got a Quran
It was 10.30 in the night and four of
us have decided to have a paan after a heavy dinner. We thought about all the
varieties, chocolate, rose, mango, vanilla, strawberry, blueberry but got fixed
on Maghai paan which is the regular one and yes, cheap within the menu. As we
approached the shop, our eyes, fell on the stall opposite side of the road
saying free Quran. Now, as I wanted to read it and inculcate the
analytical ideas into my research, I couldn’t stop myself. Not just me,
everyone was dragged by their own conscience. I don’t say it was some energy
coming out of holy Quran, it was actually the free book deal which dragged us.
Approaching the stall, we asked for
Quran. The person immediately agreed to give as many as we want and asked for
15 minutes to talk. As we are taking free books, we thought it’s fair enough to
give 15 minutes in exchange. But, this step had dragged me and mainly my friend
into deep discussions about the facts and Islam. As we started listening to his explanation,
another person (Stall coordinator) joined us. Unfortunately, we were the only
group sitting across the road and discussing Quran on the Saturday night. Everyone
was giving a strange look, which was justifiable given the week end and the
area.
Initially it looked as if the stall
keeper has taken some training from Church because of his way of explaining God
and Evil (Satan). But, we immediately realized that both Islam and Christianity
originated from the same womb. As the discussion progressed, we agreed to the
existence of different perspectives of Allah and Islam. But, even though my
friend expressed his opinion about the spread of corrupted Islam and its expansion
(which I strongly agree), they firmly stood with an opinion that Quran does not
lose its truth saying that it is the understanding of the book which can get
corrupted but not the book itself. But they failed to understand that the
written record of the revelation was itself written by group of people with
mutual consensus but not the revealer himself. Further, the translated versions
and the various schools of Islamic thought have their own interpretations of
Quran which can be easily put in a written form making a complete different
book. Their strong belief is that, Quran even if all of them are burnt, it will
survive. This was because every Musalman has bihearted it in Arabic which is
considered as the true language of Quran and thus cannot be erased.
They strongly believed that there was
some supreme power watching over the earth and every human being is answerable
to that power. The day of answering human sins was the judgement day where
humans would meet Allah. This very judgement is what for which every human
being must work for. They say they were not promoting religion but were
providing and expanding the true knowledge. They failed to notice that their
religion itself is Quran and no matter what you spread it links each other.
However, I am no one to judge others’
faith and source of hope. Thus, I would say people can believe and adopt any
religion but must act rationally and accept change according to the time. Islam
is however misinterpreted in what not ways. Ziauddin Sardar, a renowned
political Islam scholar, opines that Islam asks people to learn from experience
and never believe blindly. If Quran Islam adopts to the changing times and
accept change, it would be followed by many without forcing it on to the same.
Whatever it may be, nothing stops me from reading this holy book.
